Words?

I'm not really sure what to say about this picture except that my son communicates so well non-verbally that I wait in wondrous anticipation of what he'll say when he can speak.

Not time for sleep

This is what my brother brought to the hospital as a gift for his new nephew.  You'd think with him being a doctor and having three kids he'd know better than to think it would actually induce sleep in a newborn. Maybe he did know.  My guess is that the store owners were not sad to see the blue cow go.  This is probably payback for all the times I tattled on him when we were growing up.
Well, it's actually kinda catchy.
The kind of tune that you find yourself humming and bobbing your head to while you're doing dishes.
We just don't use it at bedtime.

Watching him grow

Tomorrow Josiah will officially be three months old.  Hard to believe, but true.  He's almost doubled his birth weight but still is our tiny wonder.  We're keeping track of milestones like first smiles, baths, and sleeping through the night.  Last month, I cut out a motto from an advertisement that said, "I won't always be new at this....I won't always be new at this...."  I've kept it up on the fridge.  Partly, it reminds me to keep going when I can't figure out why he's crying or when I worry about him not being warm enough and then find out he's soaked with sweat.  Mostly now though, it reminds me to relish these moments and live in a constant state of wonder.  Won't always be new...but it can continually amaze.

Uh, mom? These pants are a little roomy...and where did my fingers go?

Snug as a bug

Our little bug sleeps soundly...so long as he's all snuggled up with someone or something!

This is gentle Uncle Nate.

Holding on in case Nate decides to stand up...

Hey!  Where did everybody go?

No matter.  I'm snug.

This is one of my favorite places...mama kangaroo.

Oh so content!

Meeting Lexi for the first time.  I approve.

It's all black and white to me...

Once upon a time, long, long ago....

...there lived a beautiful princess...

Oh, boy, Dad!  I like this story...

Oh, no!  A fire-breathing dragon?  Quick, somebody turn the page!!

With Josiah becoming more alert, it's becoming even harder to do something other than watching him.  I'm learning he can play by himself....sorta.

All that and the kitchen sink

After a month of backbreaking work and tears of disdain, we've discovered together the wonder of bathtime.  True, the toys are really only entertaining me right now, and Josiah still hates the transfer from warm bath to cool air (but seriously, who does enjoy that?), but I think we're on the right track to loving water.  It only took a transfer from the backbreaking tub to the cozy kitchen sink...complete with an oven to warm the room.

Brrr, Mama! It's cold out here.

Splish Splash!

Why is Daddy taking my picture? Where is this photo going?

Nice warm towel.

All squeaky clean!

Early morning monologue

Okay, mom!  It's the middle of the night.  What are we doing?

Kisses.  I thought so.

Mom, I must tell you something serious.

No more kisses before the sun rises!
